Machisma was founded by Shadie Ellington, an Afro-Latina chemical and biomedical engineer building body care for the concerns that rarely get treated like beauty problems — even though they decide what women feel comfortable wearing every day.

Inspired by the word machismo, Machisma flips the script — taking the pride, power, and certainty historically reserved for men and giving it back to women.
Not by asking women to be louder, smaller, softer, or easier to market to. By building body care for the real things we were taught to hide — and naming them out loud, in the language we actually grew up speaking.
